Weakly palpable pulses with edema - what a set-up for arterial insufficency. I can see why this is stasis ulcer but it could have been way clearer in my opinion.
Elderly patient with previous mitral valve dysfunction and history of CHF who presents with bilateral lower extremity edema and an ulcer on the lower medial extremity, most consistent with a venous stasis ulcer
3 main types of lower extremity ulcers includeย (1) Neuropathic ulcers:ย Seen in diabetic patient, occur on the sole of the foot especially where lots of pressure is placed while walking (such as proximal to big toe)ย (2) Arterial ulcers:ย Patient with signs of peripheral vascular disease (claudication, shiny hairless legs) who has ulcer with necrosis often atย tips of the toes (3) Venous ulcers:ย Often seen in patient with chronic lower extremity edema and leads to ulceration on theย medial aspect of the leg
